CONTROL SKATEBOARDS: HISTORY OF THE MOST FAMOUS CANADIAN BOARDS IN THE WORLD

At the age of 18, with skateboarding in mind, Carl Savard spent most of his time looking for ways to build his own skateboards. After a serious car accident, Carl used the compensation money to start his own deck production, using the woodworking tools, homemade molds and maple veneer sheets he had on hand. With the help of his family he upgraded the machinery and created the first skateboard production in his home garage in St-Lambert, Quebec. Thus on June 16th, 1995, Control Skateboards Inc. was founded. Their mission was to provide high quality skateboards. Their mission was to provide high quality skateboards.

In early 1996 when skateboarding was in full expansion, Carl and his family moved production to an industrial area. A space large enough to facilitate the company’s expansion and create the first ever indoor skate park, located on the south coast of Quebec City.

In 2001, Carl decided to focus on skateboard manufacturing and closed the skatepark to use the extra space to his advantage. By introducing innovative machinery, he took the manufacturing process to the next level. This new expansion thus allowed the fine-tuning of product quality, placing Control Skateboards MFG in an even more competitive category on the world market.

The continuous growth led to a new expansion of the production site, totaling 7,000 square feet, with the addition of new robots, new high-precision molds and new presses, all to improve and make the manufacturing process efficient. Carl’s dynamics and commitment to high quality turned his skateboards among the best on the market.

During the summer of 2006, Control Skateboards MFG took their sales to another level by creating a dynamic online sales system to satisfy as many new customers as possible. So in 2012, Control Skateboards MFG expanded once again, making their headquarters currently 14,000 square feet. With around 15 employees today it not only sells customized skateboards, but also supplies its customers with longboards, wheels, trucks and griptapes, for happy customers all over the world.

Twenty-six years later, nothing has changed, and this young entrepreneur’s dream is still alive!
