How to Adjust Nitro Snowboard Bindings: Heel Cups and Highbacks

If you're a snowboard enthusiast, you know how important it is to have perfectly adjusted bindings for your comfort and performance. In this article, we'll show you step-by-step how to customize your Nitro bindings to perfectly fit your boot.

Adjusting the Heel Cups of the Nitro Bindings

One of the most important aspects of fitting your Nitro bindings is adjusting the heel cup, the rear part of the binding that supports your heel. Why is this crucial? To avoid excessive resistance on the toes or heel, thus ensuring optimal glide on the slopes or in the park.

This procedure applies to the Nitro Zero Team , Rambler , Women's Poison , and Women's Ivy bindings .

Step-by-step procedure:

  1. Nitro bindings have two main screws , one on each side.
  2. Unscrew each screw, but not completely , just loosen them enough to allow the heel cup to slide.
  3. For this operation, use a number 3 screwdriver , perfect for all the screws of the Nitro bindings.
  4. Once you loosen the screws, you can move the heel cup forward or backward with ease.
  5. On the side of the base of the binding are LMS markers , which indicate Large, Medium, or Small .
  6. Align the small notch on the heel cup with the correct size:
    • If you are a medium size, align with M.
    • If you are a smaller size (e.g. 7 US), align with S.

Reinsert the screws and tighten them securely, checking carefully before going out on the track .

By doing this, your boot will be perfectly centered on the board.

Adjusting the Highbacks' Forward Lean

Another highly requested adjustment is the forward lean of highbacks. But what does forward lean mean?

  • Zero forward lean : the highback is vertical, the response is softer and less immediate when moving from the heel edge to the toe edge.
  • Increased forward lean : The highback is angled forward, offering a quicker and more precise response, ideal for carving and half-pipes.

How to adjust forward lean:

  • All Nitro highbacks have tool-less adjusters , easy to use without tools.
  • Simply lift the lever and move the highback up or down.
  • The various central levels allow you to try out different settings on the track.
  • By moving the lever down , you get maximum forward lean for more precise steering.
  • By moving the lever up , you get the minimum forward lean, for a smoother and freer ride.

This adjustment is quick and can be done even mid-day on the slopes , going from skate-style riding to a more aggressive setup in seconds.

Rotate the Highbacks

Some riders also prefer to rotate their highbacks . But what's the point?

  • By rotating the highback inward, it becomes parallel to the heel edge .
  • This allows for more even pressure on the back of the boot and a more natural feel while riding.

Procedure for rotating highbacks:

  1. Unscrew the two rear screws on the heel cup, one on each side , completely.
  2. Keep the washers in place for easier reassembly.
  3. Remove the highback and strap holder.
  4. Gently push the inner connecting bolts apart to separate the highback wings.
  5. Highbacks have three standard bolt positions (1, 2, 3). To rotate them, move the bolts one forward and one back , so the highback tilts to the desired position.
  6. Align the highback parallel to the heel edge and reinsert the strap.
  7. Initially screw on without tightening completely , to check that the heel cup is correctly centered on the size (S, M, L).
  8. Once centered, tighten the screws until they stop , making sure they are secure.
  9. Repeat the process for the other highback, and you will have a completely custom setup.

Correctly adjusting the heel cups and highbacks of your Nitro bindings isn't just about comfort, but also maximum performance and safety . With these simple adjustments, you can adapt your bindings to your riding style, whether in the park, on the slopes, or backcountry.

Always remember to check everything before every ride to make sure everything is stable. By following this guide, you'll have a perfectly centered, responsive setup ready for any snow adventure .
