How to Mount Bindings on a Snowboard: A Step-by-Step Guide
In this tutorial, we'll look at how to properly prepare a snowboard . It may seem simple to many, but for many, especially first-timers, it can be complicated. Having someone to guide you step by step really makes a difference.
When you buy a brand new Nitro board and a pair of Nitro Team bindings you need to mount them correctly.
Package contents and tools needed
The attacks come in a box containing:
- 8 screws
- 8 washers
Once you open the package, this is all you will need along with a Phillips screwdriver.
First, make sure you have all eight screws and all eight washers . A good trick is to put each screw in its washer first: this will make assembly easier later.
Removing the footbed from the Nitro bindings
Now you need to open the bindings. Each model is different, but the Nitro Team has a screw-on footbed .
With the screwdriver:
- turn the screw counterclockwise
- unscrew it completely (usually you need to unscrew more than you think)
At this point:
- pull the front part of the insole
- lift the back slightly
- take it off completely
Below you'll find the mini disc (in this model). Place the insole in front of you and repeat the same operation on the other attachment.
Regular or Goofy: Understanding Which Foot Goes Forward
Before mounting your bindings you need to understand whether you are regular or goofy , especially if you have never snowboarded before.
- Regular : left foot forward
- Goofy : right foot forward
A simple way to find out:
- ask a friend to give you a little sudden push from behind
- the foot you instinctively put forward is the dominant one
A fun alternative is to slide on a slippery floor in your socks and see which foot you put in front.
What are attack angles?
The angles indicate the orientation of the bindings with respect to the board:
- 0° = perpendicular to the table
- positive angles = point forward
- negative angles = point backwards
The choice depends on how you naturally stand. If you keep your feet very wide apart, you'll use more pronounced angles.
On the mini disc:
- the notches are in 3° steps (0, 3, 6, 9, 12)
- an arrow indicates the selected angle
Choosing the stance width
After the angles, you need to decide on the stance width (distance between the bindings).
Over time we have gone through:
-
from very narrow rooms
-
very wide stances in the jibbing years
Today the best choice is a natural stance that is proportionate to your height .
On Nitro boards you will find indicators on the inserts:
- left side: inches (20–24)
- right side: centimeters (50–62)
By mounting the bindings on the corresponding markers (e.g. 20 front and 20 rear) you get exactly that width.
Mounting the bindings on the board
Start from the front attachment:
- place it on the correct inserts
- center the mini disc
- insert screws and washers
- screw only partially, leaving room for adjustment
Repeat the same process for the rear mount. On Nitro Teams, the mini disc has a corner lock system , so it doesn't move once set.
When all screws are inserted:
- adjust the position
- tighten the screws definitively
The screws must be tightened well, but not too much : an electric screwdriver can damage the board inserts.
Reassembling the insole
Each brand has its own system, but on Nitro Team:
- press the front of the footbed
- lift the back slightly
- insert the sliding tracks
- slide the insole in position
- lower the back and screw
The adjustment depends on the size of the boot:
-
larger boots → more extensive footbed
-
smaller boots → more rearward footbed
Finally, lock the two rear locking systems until you hear a click. Repeat the procedure for the rear attachment as well.
Final checks and strap adjustments
Before moving on to the next step:
- pull the clips sideways to check that they are securely fastened
- check all visible screws
On the Nitro Team bindings there is a single screw that adjusts the ankle strap and heel.
The straps are tool-less , so they can be adjusted without tools:
- lift the lever to loosen
- adjust the length according to the boot
- lower the lever to lock
- repeat for ankle and toe straps
Now your snowboard is ready. Bindings mounted, stance corrected, adjustments made.
