Control Skateboards: The Story of the World's Most Famous Canadian Decks

At the age of 18, with skateboarding always on his mind, Carl Savard spent most of his time researching ways to build his own skateboards. After a serious car accident, Carl used his settlement money to start his own deck production, using woodworking tools, homemade molds, and sheets of maple veneer he had on hand. With the help of his family, he upgraded the machinery and set up his first skateboard production facility in his home garage in St-Lambert, Quebec. Thus, on June 16, 1995, Control Skateboards Inc. was founded. Their mission was to provide high-quality skateboards.

In early 1996, as skateboarding was experiencing rapid growth, Carl and his family moved production to an industrial area. The space was large enough to facilitate the company's expansion and create the first-ever indoor skatepark, located on the south shore of Quebec City.

In 2001, Carl decided to fully focus on skateboard production and closed the skatepark to utilize the extra space to his advantage. By introducing innovative machinery, he took the production process to the next level. This new expansion allowed for product quality improvements, positioning Control Skateboards MFG in an even more competitive category on the global market.

Continued growth led to another major expansion of the production facility, reaching 7,000 square feet, with the addition of new robots, high-precision molds, and advanced presses, all designed to optimize and streamline the manufacturing process. Carl’s dedication, vision, and commitment to quality quickly made Control skateboards some of the most respected decks on the market.

During the summer of 2006, Control Skateboards MFG took its sales to the next level, creating a dynamic online sales system to accommodate as many new customers as possible. So in 2012, Control Skateboards MFG expanded once again, expanding its current headquarters to 14,000 square feet. With approximately 15 employees, today it not only sells custom skateboards, but also supplies its customers with longboards, wheels, trucks, and griptape, serving satisfied customers around the world.

Twenty-six years later, nothing has changed, and this young entrepreneur's dream is still very much alive!
